Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged his former club to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish in the summer so he can partner with the already-flourishing Bruno Fernandes. United were linked with the signing of Grealish last summer and were close to securing the deal but were put off by Aston Villa’s transfer demands so a deal never materialised.
The Villans were demanding in excess of £75 million if they want to let their captain leave but Ed Woodward deemed the figure outrageous and shut the door on the deal. However, it looks as though Grealish’s stock has risen since then having maintained his status as the club’s best player this season with a number of eye-catching performances.
Manchester United’s failure to sign Grealish allowed him to put pen to paper on a new deal and signed a new five-year contract at Villa Park. As it stands, following his continued fine form, Grealish is still currently being linked with a move to Old Trafford, especially with reports claiming that the Red Devils are ready to let French midfielder Paul Pogba leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
And Ferdinand, who is a huge fan of the Aston Villa captain believes his old club should do everything they can to secure the services of Grealish whether or not Pogba will be allowed to leave the club. Ferdinand said he does not care whether Pogba leaves or not, but that Grealish is his man and United should snap him up.
The former defender added that the signing would be a very beneficial one given that the player has outstanding qualities, plus already has Premier League experience and in the highest level too. United fans will also love the idea of Grealish moving to the Theater of Dreams judging by the season he’s having so far.
